The Desert Echoes Flute Project is an exciting and adventurous flute choir program sponsored by the Mesa Community College Music Department. The members are from the Phoenix metropolitan area and include professionals, music educators, college students, and community musicians who all enjoy playing the flute. The members perform in the Symphonic Flute Choir, Chamber Flute Choir and small chamber groups including the award winning sextet, trios, and quartets.
After only one year together, DEF Project was selected to perform at the 2007 National Flute Association Convention and they were invited back for 2010 and 2012!
Their repertoire varies from newly composed and commissioned works to arrangements of Classics, Asian, Latin and American folk musics and have included playing bottles, head joints, boomwhackers, whistles, percussion, bassoon, and a harp in addition to flutes. They present concerts, enjoy rehearsing, and are also involved in community service performances.
